Sara and Ayda is the seventh feature by Maziar Miri, the director of such films as Gradually, The Book of Law and The Painting Pool. One of the most powerful dramatists of his generation in Iran, his latest, as the title suggests, is the story of female friendship. Sarah (Ghazal Shakeri) and Ayda's (Pegah Ahangarani) friendship is tested through a series of events that create a moral conundrum for one of the duo. Both lead actresses create characters that stand in stark contrast to the persona they have come to be known for. Mostafa Zamani, Saeed Changizian, Tina Pakravan and Shirin Yazdanbakhsh complete a stellar ensemble whose chemistry is the film's strength.
